Bouin is a village whose history, geography and economy are intimately linked to marshes and salt marshes since Roman times. It used to be an island! Protected by a dyke because of the tidal waves which have upset the village several times, it is today a mecca for oyster farming in the Vendée (180 producers in the town!!) and salt production since the 17th and 18th century. Located just opposite the island of Noirmoutier, it is good to walk there in its alleys and alleys (small alleys) and especially to observe the Passage du Gois, which leads to Noirmoutier and whose road is regularly flooded during strong tides. It's a perfect place for shore fishing in the Vendée, but be careful not to be surprised by the rising waters!
On the town, you will also appreciate the discovery of the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Bouin church, which dates in its first foundations, from the 12th century, observe the particularly remarkable altarpieces and the stained glass windows. Bouin is also the stronghold of the wind and a large wind farm has been built there. 8 wind turbines of 62m, facing the sea and marshes.
From May to September, come and discover The House of the Pays du Gois to learn more about the region, take a moment on the picnic tables with a playground.
In Bouin, we like to stroll through the small fishing ports, such as the Port du Bec (the largest and teeming with activities), the Port de la Louippe (crossed by the cycle path)... There is also the Port des Champs (wild, natural place for a walk with perhaps a few oysters), the Port des Brochets (an authentic place, valued by the Vélodyssée, perfect for discovering the local fauna and flora), Le Port du Collet (full of charm for a walk): Pleasure or fishing, these ports are real heritage sites, to be discovered at all costs!
