  This was my first experience of paddling in a canoe! We were in a group of people being shown around this part of the Vendée by the local tourism office staff - they were very knowledgeable and were good guides on the canals around the pretty town of Sallertaine. I would recommend the Route du Sel canoe trip as the water was very calm and the route was well signposted so you couldn’t get lost!

  Incredibly friendly and amusing staff. Full of information about the marshes and their history. Very helpful. Good value, easy parking 50m away in the centre of the village There are several canoe routes to choose from, all colour coded. If only going once, go to the Windmill. Don't leave without looking around the garden behind the shop. There is also a small cafe behind the garden to enjoy, and a bar in the village square.

  Option without guide: we rented two cayacs for 5 persons. Bit inflexible personnel e.g. during registration. No map, so no idea how far we were on our route. We never made the 2 hour trip in 2 hours, turned halfway. The way back appeared much harder and longer due to facing winds. No explanation on what to do upon arrival (different station), no one there. Apparently you were supposed to bring back the pedals to the office? (why?). Nice environment and nature. Techniques and route were well explained.
